Mobile Internet Revolution vs PC Internet Revolution

I believe that the mobile Internet revolution will hit India before the PC Internet Revolution does.

Why?

Internet Mobile
Population in 2007 ~42 Million ~200 Million
Penetration 3% 15%
Predicted Population in 2008 ~54 Million ~370 Million
Approximate Growth Figures 29% 85%

1) We all know Mobiles have a higher penetration compared to PCs.
2) Cheaper for the common man to buy a phone, install GPRS and access the net on the mobile than to buy a PC, get an Internet connection.
3) More convenient to access the Internet from the mobile(given no problem with interface/usage). Can easily check my mail on my way to work. Check the balance in my account from my bedside just before sleeping.

Point 3 I think will be the biggest factor pushing the mobile internet market.

FYI: Internet mobile access accounts for 9% of total users already

Why not?
1) GPRS enabled handsets
2) Bad User Interface/Tough to pick up
3) Not enough sites
4) Illiteracy

I can probably go on and on why it wont work but one point that we need to realize is that, in today's ever changing world, with cut throat competition, there will be someone who looks to leverage this medium and provide a suitable service. The point to note is that it is without argument more convenient for the user and that will dictate terms in today's transparent and customer focussed world.

We need a Google equivalent for the mobile...someone who wants to provide convenience to the user and doesn't only care about profits.

I think all other factors can be overcome but unless this one is, my prediction wont come true.

First major Web 2.0 Tryst in India

So the buzz has died but I think this was the 1st engaging micro site from an India website on a big scale. Pretty neat..didn't hear too much about it though...

It was a brilliant idea which promoted brand engagement...the future of the Indian online industry?

I wonder if it did well? Questions -->Is India ready for such an advanced form of online marketing?

Compare it to the Adidas campaign to the mature internet markets
http://www.adidas.com/campaigns/iin/content/index.asp?adidas_cc=in

Amazing isn't it? Thats the future buddy. Even without a contest or prize this campaign has created a huge buzz...got a lot of people to engage in it...and finally added to the brand experience....

So guys remember Impossible is Nothing ;)

Next KPO Field??

So, I used to be a technical person(geek if you please) and I've switched over to Internet marketing..(after going through a team lead, product management, SEM, etc)...the question to be asked here is not why(thats my personal choice) but how?

4 Simple Reasons

1) Requires Highly Analytical Individuals
2) Understanding of technical nuances
3) Desire to be creative/innovative
4) People who understand human behavior well.

Now tell me every 5th techi falls into this bracket doesn't he?

So with a plethora of technical people in India I believe this is the next big thing which will be outsourced to India...Once it catches on that is...

Why did I shift? Boredom, Lack of challenge, colleagues who I couldn't relate to...

Reasons are many but I believe I've a definite edge over fellow Internet Marketers because of my background in logical thinking...
It helped me understand Google Ad Words well and also helped me understand tools like Google Analytics, etc thus making it really easy to shift and be a value add in this field...

Of course there has to be a passion to be a techno marketer thats of paramount importance here...

Anyways I do believe this is a huge market and should see a lot of outsourcing in the near future.....

The eventuality of the content powerhouse - internet

I go online and try and look up something...lets take a product for instance...go to about 50 sites which have the same product and write things about it...what do i do...what do i believe...

Simple idea...this happened in everyday life too...with other offline products...
lets take light bulbs for example...there were a lot of them...eventually there was one neutral company which tested it...tested all the light bulbs and then gave it the ISI mark...(India)..so we have some1 to believe

So basically there is one firm which tells me that this company makes bulbs which have been tried and tested...

Exactly what I believe will be a necessary eventuality on the internet...A site which standardizes the content of other sites...

Like Verisign stamps its logo on a secure site...this entity will stamp its confirmation on information...

Microsoft - Live (Maps and other things)

Did you check out live.com...check out the new personalized microsoft homepage...really liked the interface...

So they copied the whole Google labs...with the maps..web tools...etc etc
they say that any one who comes up with a product already there in the market they need to be 20 times better to make it work...
this one fails this test though...

I know one product which doesn't the new Microsoft maps...
I saw google earth quite a while back and this product puts it to shame...

especially for people from india...check out the push pin concept...
right click on any location in india and select 'from'
then right click some other location and select 'to'
and click on get directions....and lo!!!

It tells u the directions with all the turns and the distances to each turn with an accuracy of 0.5 miles!!!

Really neat....

As a google fan all I can say is...lets c what they come out with!!!

Do no evil ;)

Good Move

Keeping tools online is a smart move and I think in today's environment it makes sense to have access to the tools through the net.

I remember during one of my projects where we were four people completing a task we would each update a list of things done in a common folder of one of the computers.

Serveral problems -
What if that computer where the file was left wasn't on or crashed.
What if I wanted to access the file from outside the office network.

Its almost like giving a online data storage for an organization which can be accessed anywhere.

I think if SMEs can get over the privacy issue fears then this makes sense for them.

Another opportunity lost :(

hi guys...just in case any of you didn't trust me when I said I thought of quite a few business before their time...

For the lazy
"As a part of the agreement Google and eBay will develop a “click to call” advertising system utilizing both Google Talk and Skype. The “click to call” system will allow buyers and sellers to have a conversation over the phone, charging advertisers for each call connected. Testing will begin in early 2007."

watch this space...u might just make money someday!!!
